Marie-Hélène La Forest
Associate Professor of Postcolonial Literatures
Short biography
Marie-Hélène Laforest is a writer and associate professor of postcolonial literatures at the University of Naples “L’ Orientale”. Widely travelled, she has lived in Haiti, Puerto Rico, the United States, and Italy. She has been a James Michener fellow and a visiting scholar at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She teaches courses on Modernism, women’s writing, transcultural writers, and the African diaspora.
Published work
Her most recent publications include Diasporic Encounters. Remapping the Caribbean (Naples, Liguori, 2000), Foreign Shores (Montreal, CIDIHCA, 2002). Questi occhi non sono per piangere. She has also published numerous articles in Italian, French, and U.S. journals on gender issues, migration, hybrid identities, multilingualism, and Caribbean women writers.
