Short biography
Katriina Honkanen has worked within the Gender system graduate school in Finland and later moved to the Netherlands Research School of Women's Studies to defend her thesis at the University of Utrecht, department of Women’s Studies. She works as assistant professor at Women’s Studies at Åbo Akademi University in Finland where she teaches women’s studies courses on all levels dealing with multiplicity, theories of sex and gender, sexuality and violence. She has published textbooks that are used in women’s studies in Finland and has an interest in feminist pedagogy. Her current research project deals with contemporary equality politics in relation to the question of multiplicity and theorizes the possibility for an intersectional political practice that, instead of the politics of identity and representation, would take an ethical-aesthetical approach to politics. Her other interest is the theme of historicity and the role that historicity has within feminist theories.Published work
On this area she has published the book Historicizing as a Feminist Practice. The Places of History in Judith Butler’s Constructivist Theories. Meddelanden från Ekonomisk-statsvetenskapliga fakulteten vid Åbo Akademi Ser. A: 547(diss), 2004 and “It is Historically constituted” – Historicism in Feminist Constructivist Arguments. European Journal of Women’s Studies vol 12(3) 2005, 281-295. She has been active in the women’s shelter movement for years and has also published on that area.
